Investing In Reusables

This year we plan on taking big steps to tackle the overuse of single-use plastics here on campus. Reducing the amount of plastic in our garbage means taking a deeper look at where they all come from and then taking action to eliminate them. During the course of this school year, and other school years to come, our goal is to implement a reusable cup system for use at Duke’s and Stag. We in the sustainability council hope you, as a Shawnigan student, will help us out along the way by doing your part to eliminate your own single-use plastic usage, by educating yourself on the imminent climate change issue, and by learning what steps, no matter how small, you can take to help.

Meet The Reusables Team

Reese Acorn

School Prefect

I grew up in Hong Kong, where trash, specifically single-use plastics, cover our beaches and land. Because of this, I have always been conscious of the little things we can do to create a more sustainable future, and I am so excited to bring my passion for sustainability to Shawnigan’s very own Sustainability Council. I look forward to seeing the changes we can make in the coming year.

Ava Ference

Renfrew

I am a rugby player and I love traveling to new places, surfing, hiking, and lots of other outdoor activities. Through my love of sport and adventure, I have been able to travel around the world, meet new people and learn about new cultures. Because of this, I fell in love with nature and my passion for it has only grown.

Sarah Hill

Kayes

I joined the sustainability council to try and make an impactful difference on campus. Limiting single use plastics on campus can make a larger impact on our community and the world than most people realize. As a group member I really believe that with a little hard work and care we can contribute immensely to creating a sustainable future for shawnigan.
